Happy November, introspective cook!

This morning I woke up thinking about why I cook. 

The obvious reason: to feed people. This applies to anyone who cooks. We cook to feed our family, our friends, ourselves. We cook because we have to eat, but also because the act of nurturing is life-sustaining and love-affirming.

Sharing recipes and cooking ideas with you, dear cook, is the same for me. I love to feed people, whether it’s physically (at the table), or through the page, by sharing ideas and delectable things. If I can help make your life just a little bit better through food and cooking, that makes me happy.

Another major reason: I cook for enjoyment. This applies to people like me (and probably you) who don’t merely cook, but who love to cook. It’s Freud’s Pleasure Principle. I enjoy all of it: deciding what to cook; flipping through cookbooks; looking at produce and products at the supermarket (going to the grocery store for me is not a chore!); getting creative in the kitchen or fo…
