The first I ever heard of “little treat culture” and the “little treat economy” was a few days ago, when I read a newsletter from Francky Knapp, the commerce writer for Eater. Not only did she write about little treat culture; she led with it:

“Little treat culture? In this economy? The question of whether or not people are still treating themselves during these increasingly strange and uncertain times has been top of mind at Eater this week. What does everyday decadence look like when a dozen eggs cost $10 — if they’re even on grocery shelves to begin with?”

Blimey — was I the only human who had never heard of little treat culture? Knapp’s entire letter spun on it with nary a reminder of what it is.
