Postcard from Miami
A killer Cuban sandwich and a terrific tasting menu (including a simple, fab dish to make at home) were the highlights of a quick trip.
Happy Saturday, cocinero intrépido o cocinera intrépida!
More than a couple of decades had passed since I’d visited Miami; I’m just back home, so thought I’d dish out a few highlights.
I wasn’t there for the South Beach Food & Wine Festival (which started on Thursday), but for a tasting for a prospective client (for my consulting biz). It went well! We were a team of three, including our chef-partner, Bradford.
Bradford had to wing back to New York following the tasting, so our other partner, Douglas, and I stuck around for a little beach time, Miami culture and food exploration.
Of course I had to have a Cuban sandwich, so we waited in line to lunch at the shop widely considered to serve the best Cubano in town — Sanguich de Miami, the original location in Little Havana. Husband-and-wife owners Daniel Figueredo and Rosa Romero opened it in 2018; since then it has been recognized in the Michelin Guide as a Bib Gourmand, and the couple has opened three more shops.
Sanguich takes great car…
